Qajar Persian Turquoise-Glazed Pottery Vase with Fish and Birds
Estimate$600–$1,000
Offered in A Lifetime of Discovery III · Sunday, November 1, 2026, To be announced
A Persian Qajar pottery vase of ovoid form, decorated in black beneath a vivid turquoise glaze with fish, water birds and scrolling foliate motifs arranged within lobed reserves. The decoration and turquoise-and-black palette are characteristic of 19th-century Persian wares associated with centers such as Kashan and Tehran.
The vessel is formed from a light buff fritware or stonepaste body, with extensive glaze crazing, surface wear and kiln irregularities. The recessed base shows the unglazed sandy body with pooled turquoise glaze and an old collection or dealer label.
