A large carved wood ritual trough attributed to the Dogon peoples of Mali, likely early to mid-20th century, possibly earlier. Carved from a single block with a hollowed rectangular body, geometric relief decoration and a long curved neck terminating in a stylized horse head.
Retains an old collection tag identifying the piece as Mali - Dogon and referencing the Mary Sue and Paul Rosen New York private collection.
