A Persian stonepaste bowl attributed to Kashan, dating to the late 12th to early 13th century. The broad conical form is raised on a short circular foot and decorated with a radiating panel design in muted black, gray-blue and reddish-buff tones beneath a transparent glaze.

The exterior retains stylized calligraphic or pseudo-epigraphic decoration arranged around the walls. The surface shows extensive glaze degradation with areas of silver-blue iridescence, mineral accretion and weathering. A faint green cross-like mark is visible on the underside of the foot, though its precise function has not been determined.

Attribution and dating are based on form, materials, decoration, construction and visible surface characteristics; the bowl has not been scientifically tested for age.

Provenance
Property from an important private collection, assembled by a dealer and collector over more than six decades.
Condition
Extensive glaze weathering and surface wear with iridescence, abrasions, staining and scattered losses. Several rim chips and losses, with areas of old restoration and fill visible along portions of the rim. Additional age-related wear to the foot and underside. Please refer to photographs.
