Navajo First Phase-Style Wearing Blanket

An antique Southwestern Native American wearing blanket attributed to Navajo weaving traditions, worked in alternating bands of black, charcoal gray, brown and natural ivory wool. The restrained striped composition follows the classic First Phase or Chief's blanket tradition, with hand-spun wool, joined weaving and surviving corner tassels. Likely late 19th to early 20th century.
