Korean Unified Silla Stoneware Lotus Bowl

A Korean stoneware lotus-form bowl attributed to the Unified Silla period, 668-935 AD, or possibly the early Goryeo period. The wheel-thrown vessel rises from a circular foot to a softly lobed foliate rim, with lightly incised vertical divisions emphasizing the lotus-petal form. The pale gray-white surface shows an uneven early glaze with areas of weathering and exposed stoneware body.
The underside displays a roughly finished foot, kiln-related discoloration and surface accretion. A surviving old collection label identifies the vessel as Korean Unified Silla and describes it as a carved stoneware lotus cup. Attribution and dating are based on form, materials, construction, glaze and visible surface characteristics; the piece has not been scientifically tested for age.
