Chinese Makou Provincial Stoneware Jar

A Chinese provincial stoneware utility jar of Makou type, wheel-thrown from coarse reddish-brown clay and covered with a warm buff glaze. The body is decorated in dark brown with a wavy shoulder band, a continuous geometric fret around the center, and broad arching motifs to the lower body. The interior and base are unglazed, consistent with utilitarian household production. Likely late 19th to early 20th century.
