A large carved wood male figure attributed to the Sukuma or Nyamwezi peoples of Tanzania, likely mid-20th century or earlier. The standing figure has an elongated neck, rounded head, slit eyes, projecting nose, open mouth and bent arms, with a dark worn surface and areas of lighter patina.
Retains original auction tag numbered 540 from African Art at Auction, Properties from the Jean-Pierre Hallet Collection.
