Persian Cobalt-Glazed Stonepaste Bowl, 12th-13th Century

A medieval Islamic stonepaste bowl attributed to Persia, probably Kashan or a related Central Iranian center, dating to the 12th-13th century. The broad conical form is raised on a short circular foot and covered in a deep cobalt-blue glaze over a pale stonepaste body.
The glaze survives most strongly in protected areas and shows extensive age-related surface alteration, abrasion, mineral accretion and areas of silvery iridescence. The exposed underside and foot reveal the pale fritware body characteristic of medieval Islamic stonepaste production.
Attribution and dating are based on form, materials, glaze, construction and visible surface characteristics; the bowl has not been scientifically tested for age.

- Property from an important private collection, assembled by a dealer and collector over more than six decades.
- Condition
- Extensive old breaks, cracks and repairs throughout, with areas of restoration and fill. Scattered rim losses and chips, heavy glaze wear and abrasion, mineral accretion and surface weathering. Additional wear and losses to the foot and underside. Please refer to photographs.
