Syro-Hittite hand-modeled terracotta female idol of highly stylized form, featuring prominent pierced spectacle eyes, a projecting bird-like nose, incised coiffure or headdress, broad applied collar, abbreviated arms, and an elongated body terminating in a flared foot. Figures of this distinctive type are associated with the ancient cultures of northern Syria and the Levant and are generally interpreted as votive or fertility figures, sometimes traditionally identified with the goddess Astarte.
