Chinese Bronze Figure of Songzi Guanyin and Child, Ming to Early Qing Dynasty, 17th Century

A Chinese hollow-cast bronze devotional figure depicting Songzi Guanyin, the Child-Giving manifestation of the Bodhisattva of Compassion. The deity is seated frontally in voluminous, deeply folded robes, holding a small child before her. Her serene face is modeled with downcast eyes, elongated earlobes with circular earrings, and a gentle expression beneath an elaborate high foliate and flame-form headdress. The bronze retains a richly aged dark-brown to nearly black surface with areas of green and reddish oxidation and surviving traces of gilding and red pigment in protected recesses. The underside is open and reveals the irregular interior of the hollow casting with accumulated deposits and remnants associated with the casting process.

Provenance
Property from an important private collection, assembled by a dealer and collector over more than six decades.
Condition
The figure displays substantial age-related surface wear, with widespread rubbing and losses to the gilding and red pigment. The bronze has a varied dark-brown to nearly black patina with areas of green and reddish oxidation, together with accumulated deposits and encrustation, particularly in recessed areas and within the hollow underside. Minor surface pitting, casting irregularities, abrasions, and small edge losses are present. No obvious major breaks are visible. Please refer to photographs.
