Korean Goryeo-Style Celadon Meiping Vase with Incised Floral Decoration
Estimate$1,200–$2,000
Offered in A Lifetime of Discovery III · Sunday, November 1, 2026, To be announced
A large celadon-glazed stoneware meiping-form vase, attributed to Korea and produced in the Goryeo tradition. The vessel is strongly potted with a broad rounded shoulder tapering into a narrow lower body, surmounted by a short rolled neck. The pale greenish celadon glaze is extensively crackled and covers finely incised floral and foliate decoration arranged around the body.
The decoration includes lightly carved flowering plants and scrolling foliate motifs that remain visible beneath the translucent glaze. The surface shows substantial age-related wear and glaze variation, while the underside and lower body exhibit extensive old cracking, losses and areas of restoration. The vessel has not been scientifically tested for age, and the dating and cultural attribution are based on visual examination, form, glaze and decorative characteristics.
