Carved wood seated female figure associated with the Attie (Akye) and Gwa peoples of the Lagoon region of Cote d'Ivoire. The figure is shown seated on a decorated stool with both arms raised beside the head, an elongated face with prominent nose, downcast almond-shaped eyes, small facial scarification marks, and an elaborately incised coiffure. The stool retains traces of white pigment, with a dark varied surface and extensive age-related wear throughout.

Property from an important private collection, assembled by a dealer and collector over more than six decades.
Condition
Surface wear, abrasions, pigment loss and natural wood cracking, including a pronounced vertical split through the stool and base. Old collection label to underside. See photographs.
