Chinese White-Glazed Miniature Ewer, Tang / Liao Dynasty Style

A small Chinese ceramic ewer, finely potted with a bulbous body raised on a spreading hollow pedestal foot, the tapering neck terminating in a stylized pinched, bird-like spout. A high arched handle extends from the upper neck to the shoulder, with applied circular bosses ornamenting the body. Covered overall in a creamy white glaze displaying extensive crackle, the glaze stopping above the spreading foot to expose the pale buff-colored ceramic body. The unglazed underside displays concentric potting marks. The compact form, white glaze, spreading foot and distinctive spout recall early Chinese white-glazed wares of the Tang through Liao periods.
