Estimate$8,000–$12,000
Offered in A Lifetime of Discovery II · Sunday, September 27, 2026, 1:00 PM Eastern
A finely carved Taino hardwood duho, or ceremonial seat, modeled in the form of a crouching zoomorphic figure with prominent circular eyes, articulated facial features, and individually carved toes. The elongated, gently concave seat rises behind the figure and is embellished with a deeply incised geometric band. Carved from a single piece of dense hardwood, the compact sculptural form and powerful zoomorphic imagery are characteristic of the ceremonial seating tradition of the Indigenous Taino peoples of the Caribbean.
